Our History
The North Carolina Building Inspector's Association is soon to celebrate 50 years of service to the citizens of North Carolina in protecting your homes, businesses and families. We are incorporated as a North Carolina Chapter 55A non-profit corporation, as described in Section 501(c)(3)(4) of the United States Internal Revenue Code.
Approximately 50 years ago, the North Carolina State Legislature enacted law which created the North Carolina Building Inspectors Association (NCBIA). Then, as now, the NCBIA is an organization of city, county, and state building code enforcement and administration officers, other individuals, companies, and organizations, for the purposes of: 1). to promote uniform understanding, application, and enforcement of all state and local building laws and regulations; 2). to cooperate and assist in the development of building regulations and standards; 3). to promote all means of increasing the level of professionalism and efficiency of local building inspectors; and 4). to create a better public understanding and appreciation of building regulations and their importance to the public health, safety and welfare.
Today, the NCBIA is represented in each of the 100 North Carolina counties and virtually every North Carolina town and city. The NCBIA membership is a few less than 1,000 members and continues to grow.
The NCBIA invites you to join us in our efforts to promote those ideals and purposes stated above, by becoming a member of the NCBIA.
