Job Description: Henderson County, in beautiful Western North Carolina, seeks outstanding candidate to be chief building inspector responsible for planning, directing and implementing the County’s overall building inspections programs, to include electrical, building, plumbing and mechanical; oversees permit center, responsible for enforcement of the County’s minimum housing code. Requires certification from North Carolina Code Officials Qualification Board at level II or III in all areas of inspection with considerable work experience with NC Building Codes and building trades.  Successful candidate must possess strong managerial experience; excellent problem-solving and customer service skills, high level of professionalism; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; valid NC driver’s license required.  Degree in relevant field preferred.  Reports to County Manager.

Job Description:

Plans and conducts a program of reducing fire hazards by securing compliance with State and local laws, codes, rules, and regulations. Instructs various segments of the community on fire safety through education of the existing codes, laws and regulations; issues permits and maintains all associated records. Reviews plans for new construction.
