Areas of responsibility will include, but not limited to the following: Directs and coordinates the activities of the department; Plans work as necessary for those whose functions do not follow standard daily practices; Prepares budget estimates for the department and departmental budget preparation; Administers the expenditures of allotted funds; Trains and develops staff; Reviews reports submitted by subordinates; Estimates material and equipment needs and takes appropriate action to meet the needs; Provides and directs periodic inspections of work activities to insure compliance with instructions and improve operating efficiency; Participates in the writing and revision of county codes and regulations pertaining to building construction; Conducts presentations to local agencies, organizations, and associations; and performs other duties as directed by the County Manager.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
The qualified candidates must have extensive knowledge of all local, state, and national ordinances and codes administered by the county Inspections Department. The candidate must possess extensive knowledge of installation of plumbing, heating and electrical facilities, and the ability to interpret blueprints, specifications and building codes. Candidate must have extensive knowledge of approved methods, practices, materials and equipment used in building construction. As well as the ability to make sound decisions based on experience and training in directing activities of the department is essential.
Chosen candidate must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees. The ability to deal tactfully and effectively with contractors, engineers, property owners and the general public is a must. The candidate must possess physical ability to maneuver on scaffolds, structural members and in cramped quarters to accomplish periodic inspections of work activities to insure compliance with instruction. The chosen candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, architecture or a related field with considerable experience in construction or inspections or equivalent combination of education and experience.

The Fire Marshal will perform specialized administrative and supervisory work in directing the Alamance County Fire Marshal’s Office and Emergency Management Program. Qualifications: The qualified candidate must have extensive knowledge of standard fire service objectives and standard emergency management measures, principles, methods, and procedures. The candidate must possess extensive knowledge of the geography and physical layout of Alamance County. Candidate must have considerable knowledge of communications equipment and systems used in Alamance County Fire Services and Emergency Management and the ability to effectively operate EM2000 program in conjunction with the State EOC. The ability to develop detailed plans for Emergency Management operations is essential. As well as the ability to instruct local fire administrators on the requirements and required paperwork and equipment for obtaining ISO inspections and lowering their respective district ratings. Chosen candidate must have the ability to effectively write and obtain grants for fire services, emergency management and homeland security. The ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with multi-agencies and the general public is a must. Job Description: Rockingham, Pop. 9688. Seeking highly motivated individual that will be responsible for coordinating and implementing the City\'s overall inspections work program to include electrical, building, plumbing, and mechanical. Position is also responsible for enforcement of City zoning, minimum housing, and public nuisance ordinances. Position is a part of the City\'s Planning and Inspections Department headed by the Planning Director. The preferred candidate will possess Level III certifications in building, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical and have knowledge and experience in enforcement of zoning, minimum housing, and nuisance abatement.

Job Description:

Works within level of certification to inspect residential, commercial and industrial new construction and renovations for compliance with building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical codes. Enforces state and local building codes; advises contractors in interpreting and applying code regulations; maintains records of inspections and prepares necessary reports; reviews and studies building code regulations to stay informed of changes in codes and ordinances. Performs specialized administrative and record-keeping work to support the building permit process of the Building Inspections Department. Issues building permits upon approval of applications; answers telephone and greets visitors.

Desirable Education and Experience: Graduation from high school supplemented by trade school course work in building construction trades and experience in construction trades work, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid driver’s license and state certification in Level I, II or III electrical, building, mechanical and plumbing codes.
